Join us for the upcoming 2015 Biennial Statewide Conference taking place in Tallahassee, Florida’s capital city, Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th, 2015. This one-of-a-kind conference will bring together representatives from over 40 African-American historic sites and museums to provide learning opportunities for museum professionals and patrons to lead, manage, and collaborate more effectively, while experiencing the unique history and culture of the north Florida region.
The theme for FAAHPN’s 2015 Biennial Statewide Conference is Places of Empowerment: Redefining the Role of Cultural Institutions (Saving, Interpreting and Accessing Cultural Spaces). The symposium is designed to broaden the perspectives of those in attendance by cultivating an understanding of cultural spaces as empowerment zones for preservation beyond the built environment, to include the safeguarding and perpetuation of African American culinary traditions and social norms. In accordance with this effort, we respectfully request your participation as a keynote speaker for the mid-day luncheon scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2015 to advance the thematic elements of the conference by highlighting aspects of your published works as both research practitioner and culinary historian.
In addition to informative presentations from industry professionals, heritage tours of the local region, the conference will culminate on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 with a very special Florida Freedom Day celebration to commemorate the first reading of the Emancipation Proclamation in Florida.
