Engage with historians, educators, archivists and political leaders on the history and facts along the road to Emancipation of enslaved Africans in America. Conference speakers and panelists will discuss significance of the Emancipation Proclamation; December 6th, the date of the ratification of the 13th Amendment; May 20th, Florida’s Emancipation date; and the other topics of historical relevance. This conference is purposed to unpack significant events in the history of America for better understanding, appreciation and commemoration.
Discussion topics include the History of the Civil War and Emancipation as a Definitive Process, and Effective Methods for Classroom Instruction. Interrelated workshops will address the Preservation of Black Burial Grounds, Florida Maroon Societies & the Underground Railroad,Legacy Communities & Heir Property Rights and the Design and Development of Freedom Trails.
