The objective is to keep the memory of Dr. King alive and honor his life and legacy. The event brings to life his vision of neighbors working together to build a better future. In partnership with the Historic Westside Ministerial Alliance, the march starts at the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum after the Memorial Breakfast at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The museum will open at 8:00 am and marchers are encouraged to view special exhibits on the life and legends of Dr. King. The Historic March will begin with the ringing of the museum’s church bell. Everyone is invited.
Schedule of events for January 16, 2023
- 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Community Breakfast at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 214 N. Myrtle Ave., NSB (across from Babe James Center).
- 9:00 a.m. The March (approximately 1 ½ miles) starts at the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum, 314 N. Duss Street, NSB (across from Pettis Park).
- 10:00 a.m. Rally at the Babe James Center, 201 N. Myrtle Avenue, NSB; Keynote Speaker: Mr. Stan Harrison, State Farm Insurance Agent, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168
