Slain Civil Rights leader Harry T. Moore once said “Freedom Never Dies.” It’s in this spirit that the Freedom 5K race was created to honor Moore and his wife Harriette, who were killed 64 years ago by the KKK because of their fight to gain equality for African-Americas in Florida. A memorial complex and museum in Mims has been built on the site of the bombings, but it is in need of financial help. In order to be able to properly educate people and spread the word of the importance of the role that the Moores played during the early stages of the Civil Rights Movement, funds are needed for refurbishment and growth. Be a part of the inaugural Freedom 5K on Feb. 20, 2016. It’s a great way to celebrate black history and help a worthy cause that still lives on today.
