This event isn’t just a bike ride! It is a journey through our community’s rich history.
On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing enslaved people in the Southern states. It was not until May 20, 1865 that the state of Florida was finally freed and the Emancipation Proclamation was actually in effect.
In celebration of this historic date in Florida, this ride will take you through some incredible black communities and historic buildings that help shape Central Florida. Participate in the 3rd Annual Ride to Freedom – Sanford, FL, on May 18, 2024.
12, 25, 50 Mile options. Different paces will be available. Food and festivities will also be provided after the ride. Be sure to stay for the Florida Emancipation Celebration following the ride at Historic Hoppers Academy!
