Secretary Laurel Lee, Florida Department of State, visited the John Gilmore Riley Center/Museum and the adjacent Smokey Hollow Village Park in Tallahassee, Florida on Monday, June 3, 2019. She was given a tour of both properties by Founder, Althemese Barnes. The Riley House Museum is a member of the The Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network, a consortium of 32 African American Museums from Pensacola to Miami. The Network was established to provide professional development and “best practices” in museum management, support each other and help to fulfill the historical and cultural initiatives of the Florida Department of State. The Network welcomes Secretary Lee and looks forward to a very productive collaboration.
