Blanchard House Museum- Punta Gorda Florida- commemorated Florida’s May 20th Emancipation Day on May 19th. Sandra Rooks, Executive Director of the Pinellas African American Museum of History and Culture in Clearwater, coordinated the “Connecting the Dots” tour with Network members and friends to the auspicious event held at the Blanchard museum. A standing room only audience joined the celebration. Hats Off to Dr. Martha Bireda , Executive Director, and staff.
A resolution recognizing the statewide May 20th Freedom Day was presented to Althemese Barnes, Executive Director of the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network, by the Charlotte City Council and an award of appreciation to her from Blanchard Museum for service to the historic preservation field.
