Plant City’s A Taste of Laura Street – Flavor Forks & Fun
Date & Time: Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 12noon to 7pm
Admission: $10.00 per person
Hosted by: Bing Rooming House African American Museum
Location: 205 South Allen Street, Plant City, FL
A Taste of Laura Street includes a amateur southern dish competition, a best city official dessert contest; live bands, and art gallery highlighting the story of how economic development can ignite and launch self-empowerment in a neighborhood despite the segregated culture of 1920 thru 1960. The Plant City Laura Street Black Business District once thrived with restaurants, rooming houses (hotels), movie theaters, funeral homes, ice cream parlors and even a physician (Dr. O.A. Joyner). The Bing Rooming House Museum anchors the Laura Street business district at the corner of South Allen and Laura Street between what once was Baby Marshall’s and Chat N Chew BBQ. Attendees can purchase an armband and participate in tasting dishes while voting on best of class, people’s choice and teen favorite categories.
